Design X Fashion Show

The Design X 2013 theme was “Electric,” and the runway show plugged into the mega-wattage creativity of Thomas Jefferson University fashion designers as they brought exotic garments to life using everyday items.

The annual Design X show challenges fashion design students to push the boundaries and create fresh and interesting designs using a wide range of non-traditional materials, ranging from pool noodles to plastic utensils. Each year, the best out-of-the-box designs are featured in a runway show produced by the student group Fashion Industries Association.

The Feb. 5 fashion show featured 26 student designs, each incorporating unusual elements to surprising effects. Materials used in the designs included tissue paper, plastic bags, shredded banners, comic books, foam, drinking straws, zippers, bubble wrap, colored paper and the aforementioned plastic forks, knives and spoons. See all the designs from this year’s show in the accompanying slideshow.
