Industrial designers create attractive and
practical objects that people use every
day, from computers to cutlery to exhibits
to elevators. During an object's design
and development cycle an industrial designer
works in multidisciplinary teams with engineers,
business people and others. While the designer
absorbs and synthesizes engineering and
business concerns, it is the designer's
specific role in the team to shape the experience
of human interaction with the finished product.
Designers determine how well a product functions.
They also impart visual, tactile and other
qualities to an object, so that it will
convey values and carry meaning.
Students come here to develop the skills
to research, analyze, and explore, and to
invest in their ideas for better answers.
They immerse themselves into a human inquiry.
They discover a dynamic profession with
critical responsibilities in modern society.
They leave empowered to create a better world.
