Library Services for Philadelphia University Alumni
Alumni are welcome to use the Gutman Library’s print and media collections,
which are strong in the areas of textiles, fashion, architecture, and design.
Secondary strengths of the collection are business, engineering, and science and
health. An alumni card is needed to gain entry to the building, and for book
borrowing eligibility.
To obtain an alumni card:
Contact the Alumni Office at (v)215-951-2929 or (f)215-951-2569, or email
alumni@PhilaU.edu
and request the card. Alumni may also obtain a card in person at the Alumni
Office (Reichlin House, 2nd Floor), Monday through Friday, from 9:00
am to 5:00 pm.
For book borrowing privileges:
Stop by the Gutman Library and complete a patron registration form. A bar code
will be affixed to your alumni card, so that you can begin checking out
materials.
Study Rooms:
Alumni who present a currently valid alumni card may use a study room as long as
no current students are waiting to use a room. If alumni are using a study room,
we reserve the right to ask that the room be made available to any waiting
students. There is a limit of four hours for use of a study room. Alumni may not
reserve a study room in advance.
Reference and Referral Services:
Alumni may make reference requests by calling the Gutman Library Reference
Department (215-951-2848) or emailing:
reference@philau.edu . We will attempt to answer factual or research questions and will refer
requestors to another source or organization, when appropriate.
Catalog-only computer:
There is a PC behind the Reference Desk reserved for anyone who wants to check
the library’s catalog for availability of a book, journal, or other library
resource. Electronic databases are not available to alumni.
The
remaining library computers require a currently valid network
account for access.
Therefore, we are unable to provide general access to the Internet, word
processing, spreadsheet or other software.

Due to
agreements and shared policies, Gutman Library is currently
unable to offer Interlibrary Loan Service to alumni. Reference
staff can try and identify local libraries holding specific
items. Those who need a referral to a fee-based document
delivery service may contact us for this information, or alumni
can contact a local public library. |
