Certificate of Advanced Studies in Art Therapy

Jefferson's (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) Certificate of Advanced Studies in Art Therapy is designed for professionals who have already earned a graduate degree in counseling or a related mental health discipline. Both certificate tracks (15 credit Certificate of Advanced Studies in Art Therapy and 24-credit plus internship Professional Certificate of Advanced Studies in Art Therapy) provide a foundation of art therapy as an integrative mental health and human service profession. Taught by a faculty of practicing professionals, students will learn how to incorporate art materials and art making in psychotherapy, awaken and invigorate client creativity, and help clients to solve problems, gain insight, and express themselves through art.

Students enrolled in the certificate of advanced studies in art therapy will learn about the ethics, history and theories of art therapy.  They will also study art therapy assessment, advanced creative group process, and learn about studio art techniques in art therapy.  The 15-credit track can be completed in as little as 2 semesters (Summer and Fall), while the 24-credit plus internship track can be completed in as little as 4 semesters.
