Matriculation Requirements

For Matriculation into the M.S. in Community and Trauma Counseling Program Students must:


  1. Meet the program's Dispositional Standards (Below)
  2. Successfully complete a state and federal criminal background check
  3. Successfully pass a state child abuse clearance
  4. Complete online Act 31 training
  5. Complete required student medical health records

Dispositional Standards

Students must:

  • Treat others with courtesy, respect, and open-mindedness
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with diverse individuals
  • Demonstrate the ability to accept, and use feedback
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately
  • Interact appropriately and positively with others
  • Show initiative and motivation
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with supervisors, peers, and clients
  • Behave in a professional manner towards supervisors, peers, and clients
  • Be respectful and appreciative with colleagues
  • Effectively collaborate with others
  • Demonstrate an understanding of all counseling site and course policies and procedures
  • Complete all course and site-specific work or tasks correctly and promptly
  • Demonstrate emotional stability (congruence between mood and affect) and self-control (i.e. impulse control) in relationships with supervisors, peers, and clients
  • Attend to ethical and legal responsibilities, including ACA code of ethics and Jefferson Code of Academic Integrity
  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, fairness, confidentiality, and respect for others.
  • Demonstrate awareness of own impact on others
  • Demonstrate ability to deal with conflict.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing demands within the professional and interpersonal environment
  • Engage in self-reflection by using various forms of feedback including assessment and supervision
  • Demonstrate ability to be present and "true to ones-self"
  • Accept responsibility for personal actions and behaviors
