Requirements

v      A Philadelphia University lab computer, or any PC computer located on campus, with Windows 98 or Windows 2000 operating system

v      a Philadelphia University network account and password (if you have questions about your account, visit the Technology Help Desk on the 2nd floor of Search Hall, send email to HelpDesk@PhilaU.edu or call 215 951 4648)

Outcomes

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) encourages all faculty to use their faculty email accounts, easily accessible from any web-connected computer with Outlook Web Access.

Forwarding your e-mail will ensure that any new incoming mail, sent to your Philadelphia University account, will be instantly re-routed to the designated e-mail address you indicated in Step #4.  After forwarding, you will no longer need to access your Philadelphia University account to read/delete/or send e-mail messages.

Accessing from a lab computer

  1. Log on to a computer in the Search Hall academic computing labs, or any PC computer located on campus.
  2. Launch the Outlook 2000 email program from the icon on the desktop.
  3. Once in Outlook, clean up your mailbox by reading, forwarding, and deleting all messages.  (Note:  if you hold down the <control> key, you can select multiple messages or if you hold down the <shift> key, you can select a whole section of messages to delete in bulk.)
  4. Now create a "Contact" for your personal internet email account...  From the File menu select "New..." and then "Contact."  Type your name and off-campus email address and then click the "Save and Close" button.
  5. Now, from the Tools menu, select "Rules Wizard" and click the "New" button to create a new forwarding rule.
  6. Select “Start from a blank rule,” then select “Check messages when they arrive.”  Click Next.
  7. At the second screen, "Which conditions do you want to check?", do not check any box, but click "Next."  You will be prompted with the message "This rule will be applied to every message you receive.  Is this correct?"  Click "Yes."
  8. At the third screen, "What do you want to do with the message?" scroll down and check the box next to "Redirect it to people or distribution list."
  9. In the lower box, entitled "Rule description", you must click on the underlined text to specify the new recipient address.
  10. In the "Rule Address" dialog box, click the drop-down box next to "Show names from" and select "Contacts."  Double-click the name you created in step 4 and click OK.
  11. Click "Next" and then "Next" again to bypass the Exceptions box.
  12. Please specify a name for this rule (e.i. forwarding).
  13. In the final box, make sure there is a check next to "Turn on this rule," then click Finish.
