Faculty-student
interaction during the first year of college is critical
to student engagement and success.
As such, the Division of Student Life has established a Faculty Mini-Grant Program to encourage interactive experiences beyond the traditional classroom between faculty and their first year students. Grant requests requests involving the “Finding Philadelphia” theme and/or the integration of service-learning pedagogy are highly encouraged.
Mini-grants are now available for the 2008-09 academic year. Funds may be used to support interactive experiences for first-year courses only, and the instructor must participate in the activity with their students. Such activities might include taking students to a performance, museum or neighborhood tour, or providing lunch or dinner for a group discussion or a service activity beyond the classroom.
The maximum amount of each mini-grant is $500. Applications should be submitted at least three weeks prior to the proposed activity, and are reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Office of Student Development is available to provide additional programming assistance, such as bus reservations or event information, if needed.
