MATT BAKER, PA-C, D.H.Sc.
Dean of the School of Science and Health

Matt Dane Baker received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with additional study in science from Richard Stockton College, a Bachelor of Science and Physician Assistant Certificate from Drexel University, a Master of Science in Gerontology from Saint Joseph’s University, and a Doctor of Health Science from Nova Southeastern University. He did additional graduate study in counseling psychology and exercise physiology at Temple University. He has worked extensively in higher education and is currently a Professor and the Dean of the School of Science and Health at Philadelphia University. He was previously the Program Director of the Physician Assistant Program at the University for ten years. Dr. Baker has lectured extensively at several physician assistant and nurse practitioner programs and conferences. He has also taught in Physician Assistant Education Association’s national faculty development seminars including the Basic Faculty Skills Workshop, Enhanced Faculty Skills Workshop, and the Leadership Training Program. Additionally he has worked clinically as a physician assistant for greater than 23 years in geriatrics, cardiac rehabilitation, family medicine, otorhinolaryngology/head and neck surgery, psychiatry and occupational medicine. He has also worked in healthcare administration and research.

Dr. Baker has 20 years of military service and currently serves part-time as a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard. He has served as a site visitor for the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. His academic interests and publications have focused on pathophysiology, biological and chemical terrorism, geriatrics, cardiology, and geriatric psychiatry.

DAVID BROOKSTEIN, Sc.D.
Dean of the School of Engineering and Textiles

David Brookstein, Sc.D., has served as dean and professor the School of Engineering and Textiles (formerly Textiles and Materials Technology) at Philadelphia University since 1994. Before coming to Philadelphia University, Dr. Brookstein was a director and researcher at Albany International Research Company, a professional engineering group. He also taught at Northeastern University and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Brookstein has 11 patents in engineering and has produced 35 scholarly articles and presentations. His research interests are diverse, ranging from fiber reinforced composites to production engineering. His work has appeared in The Journal of the Textile Institute, Textile Research Journal, Journal of Applied Polymer Science, Textile World, Journal of Composite Materials, Composite Structures and International Journal of Materials and Product Technology.

Dr. Brookstein has held leadership positions in numerous engineering associations, such as chair of the Textile Engineering Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and president of The Fiber Society.

He earned a Doctor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he also studied management at the Sloan School at MIT. He received a Bachelor in Textile Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and also studied at Harvard's Business School and the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University.

DENNIS KURONEN, M.F.A.
Dean of the School of Design and Media
Associate Professor of Graphic Design

Professor Kuronen joined Philadelphia University as director of the Graphic Design Program in 1994. He holds a B.F.A.from the University of South Dakota and an M.F.A. from the University of Nebraska. In addition to holding teaching positions at several colleges and universities, Professor Kuronen has worked as a professional designer for over 25 years, has been involved with curricular planning and program development in graphic design and presented papers on art studies.

ELIZABETH MARIOTZ, Ed.D.
Interim Dean of the School of Business Administration
Assistant Professor of Retail Management and Marketing

Recently named interim Dean of the School of Business Administration, Dr. Mariotz once served as its dean and was also associate vice president for Academic Affairs. She is very involved in curriculum development as the chairperson of the Undergraduate Education Committee and in several international initiatives, as well as a host of other significant activities.

In addition to her ongoing scholarship, Dr. Mariotz was recently published in the International Journal of Finance, Journal of Global Business and Technology and International Journal of Environmental and Cultural Sustainability. She has also offered presentations in India and is actively involved in the NSF-Alaska project. As a member of the School of Business Administration faculty, Dr. Mariotz is a highly regarded instructor and works closely with students to help them achieve their academic goals. She also served as the advisor to the marketing group and as coordinator of outcomes assessment.

Dr. Mariotz earned her Doctorate and Master's in Education from Temple University, and Bachelor's degree from West Virginia University.

VINI NATHAN, Ph.D.
Interim Dean of the School of Architecture

Dr. Vini Nathan is Interim Dean of the School of Architecture and Director of Interior Design Program at Philadelphia University. She joined Philadelphia University in 1997 and since that time, Dr. Nathan has been involved in a diverse range of curricular, administrative and strategic initiatives. She earned a B.Arch degree from Anna University, India; a Master’s Degree in Interior Design from Virginia Tech and a Ph.D in Architecture from the University of Michigan. She has participated in academic leadership workshops and seminars such as HERS-Bryn Mawr and in advanced professional courses through the summer programs at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University.

Dr. Nathan was a practicing architect in New Delhi and, more recently, worked as an architect for Walker Group/CNI in New York, a full-service, architectural-design firm. She was part of the team that worked on the Kuala Lumpur City Center, a design venture in conjunction with the noted architect and a former Dean of the School of Architecture at Yale, Cesar Pelli.

Dr. Nathan has taught in interior design and architecture programs at Virginia Tech, the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Michigan State University, the University of Minnesota, New York Institute of Technology, in addition to Philadelphia University. Her research interests include chaos theory, design processes and research methods. She is currently researching the relationship between mathematics and architectural canons in traditional and contemporary Indian building designs.

Dr. Nathan is a classically trained dancer, a competitive chess player and a self-professed trivia buff.

MARION W. ROYDHOUSE, Ph.D.
Dean of the School of Liberal Arts

Marion W. Roydhouse, Ph.D., has served as dean of the School of Liberal Arts (formerly known as General Studies) at Philadelphia University since 1999. With the University since 1984, she formerly served as interim dean of the School of General Studies and taught History and General Studies as an assistant professor. Before coming to Philadelphia University, Dr. Roydhouse taught American Civilization and History at the University of Pennsylvania, St. Joseph's University, the University of Delaware and Rutgers University.

Among her accomplishments is the design of an integrated approach between professional development and the liberal arts in the General Studies program at Philadelphia University. Dr. Roydhouse's research focus is diverse, ranging from black history and feminism to improvement of teaching and the social implications of economic development. She has produced more than 30 scholarly articles and presentations. Her work has appeared in The Dictionary of the Black Theatre, Dictionary of Afro-American Slavery, The Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, Journal of Southern History, The Public Historian, The South is Another Land and Sisterhood and Solidarity: Education Programs For Women Workers.

Most recently, Dr. Roydhouse investigated the impact of the YWCA movement on labor reform. She has been active in the Southern Historical Association, the Balch Institute Press Editorial Board and the Academic Advisory Board and the Philadelphia Alliance for Teaching Humanities.

Dr. Roydhouse received a Ph.D. from Duke University and M.A. and B.A. degrees from the University of Canterbury in her native New Zealand.

LLOYD RUSSOW, Ph.D.
Graduate Dean

Lloyd Russow is Graduate Dean and Professor of International Business and Marketing at Philadelphia University. He has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in international business, international marketing, trading blocs, principles of marketing, and strategic marketing since he joined Philadelphia University in 1992. Dr. Russow has articles published in Journal of Global Marketing, Journal of Teaching in International Business, International Marketing Review, Journal of Studies in International Education, and other journals. Lloyd is on the review board of numerous publishing houses and journals, as well as special editor for digital technology for the Journal of Teaching in International Business. Lloyd has served as external evaluator for Title IV grants for the University of Toledo and Temple University; as external evaluator to the state of New Hampshire for international business programs,; and as consultant for the international baccalaureate program in the Philadelphia Public School system.

In 2000, International Dimensions of Marketing, a text he coauthored with Dr. Vern Terpstra was published by the South-Western Publishing Company. In 2001, this book was translated into Spanish. In 2002, Dr. Russow completed a book of readings, Digital Technology in Teaching International Business. Another textbook, Global Business Environment was released in 2005, and International Marketing was published in 2006.

Dr. Russow is an invited speaker on international market research topics and web research at a variety of professional and academic conferences. Lloyd is the lead subject matter expert for international data sources for an international task force that developed the Global Business Professional trade certification. The international business portal web site developed and maintained by Dr. Russow, Everything International, has received over 2,000,000 ‘hits.’ In 1999 Everything International was cited by Lycos as one of the top 5 International Trade sites in the world; In 2006, The Federation of International Trade Association (FITA), "Really Useful Site" Award and in 2007 the site received a five-star rating (5 of 5) by Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT) as an outstanding web-based teaching and learning resource. and recognized by MERLOT. A component of this site, ‘The World of 1,000 in the Year 2,000’ is now included in The University is Your Future, 2005/2006 Academic Year Edition for use in all California State University Long Beach University 100 classes, and will be included in the Intercultural Communications: A Text with Readings, by Pamela J. Cooper, Carolyn Calloway-Thomas, and Cheri J. Simonds; Allyn and Bacon, 2006.

Dr. Russow has served in many leadership positions including the Associate Dean of the School of Business Administration, the Interim Associate VP of Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Students at Philadelphia University, regional Chair of the Northeast United States Academy of International Business (for which he co-authored the AIB constitution); and Executive Committee member and Board of Governor of NASBITE International.
