INTERNSHIPS

The Internship Program at Philadelphia University is an optional academic program designed to enrich a student's educational experience by integrating classroom studies with work experience related to his/her major. Students may work in either part-time or full-time positions, and may choose credit or non-credit options. To ensure the excellent experience of students, faculty members supervise all internships.

Opportunities are frequently found in the Greater Philadelphia area, and the Internship Program Office is happy to assist students seeking positions across the country.

Faculty Supervision
Each student, dependent on major, is assigned to a Faculty Internship Advisor, who monitors the student's work assignment and awards credit for the work experience.

Program Options
Students may select from various options when applying for internship. Each student is encouraged to meet with his/her academic advisor to discuss credit options.

Part-time/Full-time
Students who secure part-time positions are expected to work 12-20 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks, or 144 hours. Part-time internships take place most frequently in the fall and spring while students are registered for other courses.

Students in full-time positions are expected to work 35 or more hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks, or 420 hours. Full-time internships are most frequently taken in the summer.

Internships for Credit?
Internships are counted as Free or Designated Electives. Eligible undergraduate students may choose to earn 3 or 6 of their elective credits through the Internship Program. Graduate students may earn up to 3 credits. Students may also choose to register for a Non-Credit Internship (please note the non-credit option is not available for International Students).

All students are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment with the Director of the Internship Program to discuss individual interests, availability, and credit options.
