Student
The essence of Philadelphia University lies within its community of students. Our goal is to fully connect new students and their families to the life of the University before classes begin. START is a time for meeting future lab partners, teammates, club leaders, hall mates and lifelong friends.

Transition
START is designed to make the transition to Philadelphia University as smooth and as seamless as possible. Incoming students get to know many of our returning students, staff and faculty and participate in our programs and services for the first time. By the end of their second day, participants make connections and become better acquainted with many aspects of their new environment —everything from the residence halls and dining services to student groups, classes and the city of Philadelphia.

Advising
START affords new students the opportunity to meet with an academic advisor and begin to prepare an academic program appropriate to their future career plans. Academic advisors are members of the teaching faculty representing each of the University’s areas of study. Each student works with an advisor to develop a fall schedule of classes that fits individual needs and placement level.

Registration
Following their advising session, new students pre-register for classes for the fall semester and leave START with their fall course schedule planned and ready.

Testing
Students participate in placement testing for mathematics, reading and writing prior to registration. START tests help the University fully support students through their studies and determine appropriate placement in University courses.
