Voting for the first time proved to be one of the most
liberating experiences in all of my 20 years of being an
American citizen. And when my chosen candidate won the
Pennsylvania vote, I felt like my measly vote wasn’t so
insignificant after all.
On the same day that I cast my vote
for the 2008 president election, I donated blood during the Red
Cross blood drive held in the Downs Auditorium on campus. I
donated blood last year and can honestly admit that I was
terrified, but this year was a lot less stressful and I managed
to emerge unscathed. Apparently Philadelphia University students
are notorious for fainting or becoming lightheaded after giving
blood, but I made sure to drink plenty of water and eat a
healthy breakfast before my donation time. The entire process
went pretty smoothly, but by the next morning I noticed a new
development on my arm--a dark bruise forming on the spot right
where the needle was inserted into my arm. The bruise has gotten
progressively worse everyday, but I’m not too worried since it
is common for slight bruising to occur and it will probably
start fading.
