At Philadelphia University since
1995, Prof. Breiner teaches all four required History of Architecture
and Interiors courses and many electives - including Theories of
Architecture Seminar, The Great American City, American Architecture,
and Thesis Preparation and Research - some of which he developed. He
also teaches Design IV for Architecture.
His research interests
include Renaissance architect Vincenzo Scamozzi and topics in American
architecture, as reflected in his publications on Venetian urban design,
Heins & LaFarge, and Philadelphia church design. During his tenure
at the Landmarks Preservation Commission in New York City, he wrote
designation reports for many significant neighborhoods and buildings.
Funded
by the Getty Trust and Dietrich Foundation in 2005-06, Prof. Breiner
undertook a Campus Heritage Project which documented the cultural
landscapes of 11 historic sites on the Philadelphia University campus.
Additional funding has facilitated continued research in Italy.
Prof.
Breiner has served as the president of the Philadelphia Chapter of the
Society of Architectural Historians, and remains involved in the SAH
national organization, and a trustee of the Germantown Historical
Society. Other professional memberships include the National Trust for
Historic Preservation, the Library Company of Philadelphia, and the
Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
