A member of the Philadelphia University faculty since 1983, Lauren Baumbach has taught in both the Interior Design and Architecture Programs and is Director of Interior Design in the College of Architecture and the Built Environment. Professor Baumbach is a licensed architect (RA) and certified interior designer (NCIDQ), practicing for over 30 years. In addition to her own practice she has worked for notable Philadelphia firms including KlingStubbins and Agoos Lovera. Her projects have received the GSA Award for Excellence in Design, the GBCA Construction Excellence Award and two AIA Gold Medal Awards. Professor Baumbach serves as a judge for the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Interior Design Awards, guest speaker at Delaware Valley Green Building Council (DVGBC) Sustainable Interior Design Symposium and presenter at Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) Conferences. She developed the Master of Science in Interior Architecture (MSIA) Program for Philadelphia University, which admitted its first class in Fall 2011.
Professor Baumbach has developed and taught many courses across the undergraduate curriculum, including foundation through thesis design studios, visualization, building construction technology, sustainable design, materials, research and programming, and professional practice courses. She has been instrumental in obtaining and maintaining Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) accreditation for the Interior Design Program. She serves as an academic advisor and faculty advisor to the Campus Chapter of International Interior Design Association (IIDA). She is the coordinator for the semester long study abroad programs and the short study abroad courses. Professor Baumbach developed discipline-based collaborative service learning projects with organizations such as Make A Wish Foundation, Northern Home, BVM School, and Falls of the Schuylkill Library in Philadelphia. She also developed multi-disciplinary projects with architecture and industry partner TD Bank .
Professor Baumbach is a member of the American Institute for Architects, International Interior Design Association and Interior Design Educators Council.
