Textile Engineering Program Mission
The textile industry is undergoing a rapid change in the United States.
Traditional textile processes have shrunk, through increased use of
electronics, control systems and automation. Non-traditional textiles have
consistently grown with applications in automotive, aerospace, geotextiles
and other areas. The textile engineer has to be proficient both in
traditional and non-traditional textile applications. He should be able to
design, develop, evaluate and effectively communicate his ideas to a
diverse audience.
Our goal is to make the Philadelphia University textile engineering
graduate a creative, adaptable, problem solver using current tools of
engineering to design novel, functional textiles and processes. The
emphasis is on process and product development using textile materials.
Textile Engineering Program Objectives
Graduates of the Textile Engineering program of Philadelphia University
will practice in the following application areas:
- Traditional textile manufacturing
- Technical textile development and manufacturing
- Graduate studies in textiles and materials engineering
In the traditional textile manufacturing, the graduates will be able to
implement process planning, control and management,
In the technical textile area, the graduates will be able to analyze structure
property relation ships of materials, develop and characterize novel textiles
including woven, knitted and non-woven structures.
The graduates will have the ability to pursue post-graduate studies with a
strong knowledge gained in the fundamentals of math, physics, chemistry and
research skills developed through project work.
The course work, final project and general studies will give the graduates the
required problem solving skills, critical thinking ability and communication
capability for succeeding in their careers.
The graduates will have acquired the skills to continue to pursue life-long
learning.
