Presentation: Getting a Virtual Edge in Your Job Hunt

By now more than 1,000,000 companies are posting their jobs on the web.

Faced with the need to reduce the time required to find, attract and
acquire talent at lower cost, recruiters have swarmed into the Internet
armed with new ways to target, track and communicate with a growing
audience of net-savvy job-seekers. Add to that mix, automated applicant
tracking systems, resume databases, push technology, virtual job fairs,
PC-to-PC video interviews and you begin to understand why an army of
recruiters are now plumbing the depths of this new technology. How do you
get an Edge?

co-author, CAREERXROADS 2000

Gerry Crispin, SPHR, has a unique background for making sense of the
"cyberspace" sizzle by combining his technical training, human resource
experience, and passion for emerging technology. An Engineering graduate
of Stevens Institute of Technology with advanced degrees in Organizational
Behavior, Gerry worked as his Alma Mater's Director of Career Planning and
Placement before embarking on a 15 year career in Human Resources with
Johnson & Johnson, Inc.

After leaving J&J, Gerry managed the operations of a major recruitment
advertising agency and advised national clients on emerging technology
strategies for more than a decade before taking a leave of absence in the
Fall of 1999.

Gerry, along with Mark Mehler, co-authored CAREERXROADS
(Career-cross-roads) in 1996, the first edition of what is now a best
selling annual directory of job, resume and career management sites on the
World Wide Web. Careerxroads is described as an "indispensable guide" for
recruiters and job seekers by Joyce Lain Kennedy, a well known syndicated
careers columnist. Joyce recently named the "2000" edition with its 1500
listings as the year's best career book.

Gerry and Mark's articles on emerging technology have appeared in numerous
publications including SHRM's HRMagazine and Employment Management Today.
Sought after as a dynamic speaker, Gerry has presented to more than 100
local, state and regional HR meetings as well as the national conferences
for IHRIM, EMA, SHRM, IACPR, NHRA, NACE and, internationally, at major
European and Australian conferences for employers and graduate advisors.
Gerry and Mark are frequently interviewed on radio and TV and have been
quoted in dozens of publications including Fortune, Business Week,
Computer World, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

Active in the Society for Human Resource Management, Gerry served as the
chair for SHRM's national Employment Committee and was VP-at-Large on
SHRM's Board of Directors for 1999. Gerry is also a member of SHRM's EMA
and Consultant professional emphasis groups.

Gerry and Mark pride themselves as educators and can be found conducting
public and private, hands-on clinics for HR practitioners throughout the
US. Their public workshops, held in computer labs where participants are
"wired to the web", are sponsored by Cornell University's School for
Industrial and Labor Relations and IDG the publisher of ComputerWorld,
NetworkWorld and InfoWorld.
