TIP OF THE WEEK

Recruiters are coming to campus - are you ready for them?

When making contact with recruiters at job fairs or networking events, make sure you do the following to make the most of those interactions:

  1. Research the companies; visit their website and check out LinkedIn to determine who you might already know.
  2. Prepare your 30-second spot - this includes your introduction, a bit of relevant information about yourself and your reason for talking to the rep.
  3. Give the recruiter your resume and ask for a card.  Take a moment between interactions with employers to jot some notes about your conversation on the back of the card.  Doing this will make following up easier.
  4. Follow up with who you met; continue the conversation or send additional documents to support your candidacy.

The Career & Internship Fair (February 17th) and DesignExpo (March 31st) are quickly approaching.  Check out this video  for additional tips on interacting with employers at a job fair (scroll down to Videos and click on Career Fair)

RESOURCE CORNER

Philly Ad Club is hosting "Personal Branding Boot Camp: Interview Skills", a free event for students on February 16th and again on the 17th (you can choose the date and location most convenient for you).  All college students in the area are invited to attend and, while the hiring managers will be from marketing/advertising/PR/media, students from all majors will benefit from the presentation.  Click the link above for more info and to register.

Interview Stream: get ready for any upcoming interviews by conducting a mock interview wherever you have access to the web and a web cam.  Accessible from your CareerLink account, select the type of interview from the menu and get ready to interview.  You can view the interview, make adjustments to your responses and then try it again!  We know, it seems a bit strange at first, but practicing for an interview is a MUST!  Just think about the number of times you've thought one thing and something entirely different comes out of your mouth - don't risk this in an interview.  Get practicing and don't worry - you can delete your interviews when you're done (or email the link to a Career Services staff member for a critique).

Weekly Walk-in Hours (subject to change; call ahead):  MWF | 10:00- 11:45 a.m. TTh | 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
