April 15th, 2009

My position requires me to multi-task assignments of different priority levels, some given with same-day deadlines and others with deadlines for the next week. Prioritizing the workload is something that is constantly changing depending on the demands/schedules of other departments and capabilities of vendors. For instance, this past week two projects were distributed from our Design team. It would be great to have an entire day devoted to working on one of these projects without interruptions, but because I am responsible for other tasks amongst my team, most of my time is spent switching between various projects. On the plus side, being in this situation has helped me with organization and strategic thinking.

These past few days I have been helping Trend prepare their mood/inspiration boards for their presentation next week. The presentation attendees include most of the Chico’s brand. It is important for everyone to grasp the concepts of the upcoming trends in order to interpret them accordingly throughout the deliveries. The main focus is on the overall feel/direction that we need to be taking for our customer, this includes: color, silhouette, fabrication, etc. Trend presentations are exciting and information-packed!

Because I’ve had to split my time between my responsibilities and helping out other team, the projects with highest priority I had to give to another member of my team to finish so we could meet deadlines. Through this teamwork practice, these assignments were completed and sent to approvals with design and management. Now, I can focus on my other project and hopefully sometime this week be able to pass it off to approvals as well!

Next week is going to be busy because the last week of April I’m taking my first real vacation in a long time to the Florida Keys! The weather should be great and there is going to be so much to see. In preparation before I leave, there will probably be a few late nights at work to make the transition back from vacation a little smoother. It never hurts to be proactive!

Write again when I get back – enjoy the rest of April!
