More on from my trip to Columbus!!

As I mentioned, there are many college graduates participating in the program making it a great environment for networking. It was no surprise to me when on the first day I ran into a fellow Philadelphia University Alum! What can I say? I’m with a company that can recognize talent when they see it! During our time together as a group, we are learning about each other’s personal life, where we came from, what job they we have been hired to do and what we like to do when we aren’t working. The program also includes a networking space online where we each have personal profiles with contact information. So let’s say if later on I needed to find out more information on why my package from Shanghai is being held up in customs in Anchorage, Alaska, I can call my buddy Tom in logistics who would be happy to help me sort it out.

One final observation I’ve made during my time here in Columbus is that our president, Les Wexner, the longest serving president and CEO in the industry, was directly quoted by every single speaker. Every move the company makes, every dollar earned is owed to direction coming straight from Les’ mouth. His presence is intricately intertwined with the daily tasks of thousands of employees. I work for a company that made $10 Billion last year. But, knowing that I am working for a founding president who is a passionate, merchandising genius makes me feel like I am working for a mom and pop shop that is just really, really big rather than a big time corporation that lacks feeling and emotion and that means a lot to me.

Until next time!
