June 1, 2009

On Monday, June 1st I will be entering my third consecutive summer internship with Phillips Van Heusen, in New York City. Previously I have interned within the corporate marketing and licensing department. I learned a great deal about each department in reference to the retail world and along side four years at Philadelphia University; I have determined I want to pursue a career as a buyer. This summer I was lucky enough to be placed as the summer intern for the buying department for Bass womenswear and accessories.

Now that I am a college graduate and pursuing an MBA in the fall, PVH has adapted my internship to a senior level position. Along with the daily work within my department I will act as an advisor to all other interns. Each summer there is a project given and I will float from group to group and offer any constructive criticism and additional help. I am looking forward to this new role as I love working with different people and it is always interesting to see what each group develops. The creativity my fellow peers display within their projects is truly impressive.

Each summer I commute from Shelton, Connecticut (my home town) to NYC daily and although I hear the questions often, “how do you do it, it must really exhaust you?” You would be amazed by the things you are willing to sacrifice when you have such a passion for what you do. Waking up at 5AM makes it pretty apparent that this is what you are meant to do. I see myself working in NYC, as a buyer in the future, which is why I am especially excited about this summer’s position. As a graduate I believe I have even more valuable input to share and conversely will gain as much knowledge from my coworkers as possible. The people I have worked for in the past have been beyond influential and helped me grow into the worker I am today. I hope to push myself even harder this summer and really put myself out there for any opportunity that should cross my path.

I will keep you all posted. Thanks for reading!
