June 8th, 2009

After beginning my first week at PVH, with an orientation, along side my fellow interns I came to realize I have started to get comfortable with PVH. Although I have only held the position of a summer intern here, it has a sense of home for me. Seeing past bosses and co-workers faces when they see that I have returned is a great feeling. As Tuesday comes to a close and I find myself running to catch the train home and I think to myself, “Alright, I’m back into the groove”.

I started on a Monday, which in any buyers’ world is the craziest day of the week. Mondays are meant to review the prior weeks’ selling and plan accordingly for the upcoming weeks. This was a great way for me to meet a lot of the individuals in my department and get caught up on the history of current products. My department has managed to keep me busy throughout the week, which can sometimes be a worry for an intern.

My boss is a pleasure as she is just as interested in what I am doing as I am. She is working to create a calendar of events for me, really striving to have me work within different departments of Bass including accessories, shoes, design and of course primarily apparel. This includes attending a shoe show next week. It’s wonderful to know she wants me to get as much out of this internship as I am willing to put in. On that note I have registered myself this week for a retail math training session that PVH offers to its associates. I took retail math during my undergrad but feel this course would go into much greater depth. My goal is to really be able to follow the maze of excel spreadsheets that the buyers reference on a daily basis. I will let you know next week how beneficial the class is.

Other daily tasks this week have included picking names for the upcoming season color ways, shipping samples, becoming familiar with samples, partaking in product recap and review meetings and entering data on past season sales; based on size and color offering. On Thursday, I also held the first intern meeting. As the senior intern, I am responsible for leading the interns in a new challenge this summer. PVH partakes in Stuff the Bus every year, working to collect school supplies that under privilege children can’t afford. The interns are taking this project on in hopes for a fresh outlook and an even more successful outcome. The interns and I brainstormed during lunch and came up with some exciting ideas. I hope to get employees as excited about this fundraiser as we are.

At PVH we are granted summer hours on Friday meaning employees begin to leave at 1PM. This is a nice bonus as it allows me to get a jumpstart on my commute home. I’m looking forward to the wonderful weekend weather and the events I will be taking part in next week.
