This week contained a very interesting activity that I did not think I would be partaking in at the beginning of the summer. On Tuesday, PVH threw a birthday party for a Boys & Girls Club in Brooklyn, which has been open for 125 years. We arrived at one o’clock and threw a two hour party that included arts and crafts, face painting, tattoos, sports activities, a moon bounce and more. The children were all so enthusiastic about the day’s events. It was a great feeling of pride to work for a company that has these ties to their community. PVH has also said they will be taking these children on a trip to their corporate headquarters in August. Through many different fund raisers and parties PVH really does give back to the community and I was glad I could be a part of the Boys & Girls Club party to see the smiles on the children’s faces.
Wednesday concluded the second Bake Sale that the interns put on to raise money that will be contributed to the Stuff the Bus fundraiser, which concludes on this Friday. We have raised $347 dollars along with school supply donations. The money raised along with supplies will be distributed to needy children throughout the tri-state area. The interns learned that in New York, the bake sales are really more successful, as many people have not brought in school supplies. As the campaign runs in years to follow it will be interesting to see how successful it can be now that we know what works and what does not.
On Friday, along with my boss’s birthday, Bass held an “In it to Win it” meeting. The president of Bass recapped our mission through this new slogan for the remainder of the year. Through the rough economy he wanted us to remember that Bass has gone through these ups and downs before and we will again but through it all, along with proper decisions, hard work, and execution we can meet the projected year end goal. This was a great “pep rally” to get everyone on the same page and encourage them throughout the future. We also commemorated the departure of the President of Marketing, who is leaving for a position with Calvin Klein. It was wonderful to see the bonds that were made with his fellow associates and how this company truly is a family.
Throughout the remainder of the week I worked on updating assortment sheets again, as well as checking in new TOPs. I worked with the accessory buyers on Thursday and Friday to assist in organizing the product samples, going through the system to discard old samples, check in new ones and organize all containers holding product. I also took products that were within the showrooms and re-arranged their presentation for the new season.
All in all this week, I saw another great side of PVH, the more personal and humanitarian side. I saw great attributes that no matter where I end up working, I want to make sure that the company has those attributes.
