So this week wrapped up my final semester as an NBCU Graphic Design Intern. Over the past 10 weeks I've been writing about my busy schedule and hope you enjoyed reading along!
The beginning of my week was filled trying to finish my projects I've been working on and making sure they would be completed before I left. We had our weekly TravelSkoot meeting and discussed more ways to get new users to come to the site. The Summer Sweepstakes has been a great way to attract new members. We've had a good numbers of new skoots created so hopefully the weekly logos I designed helped gain their attention.
On Tuesday another intern in my group, along with two others attended the Jimmy Fallon Show. We won VIP tickets at an intern raffle and we're excited to go to the show! The guests were Channing Tatum, the Arctic Monkeys, and none other than Joan Rivers. It was a great taping and it was nice to be able to have some fun before having to finish my busy final week.
Wednesday was my last one-on-one meeting. My supervisor has been such a great help throughout this summer. She was always providing me with projects to work on and always available for questions or concerns. We couldn't believe that I had started all the way back in May! I also had my last editorial meeting for the site. Although I will no longer be a TravelSkoot intern, I will definitely keep creating new skoots!
Another great part about working as an intern was getting to meet all the other interns in my group. We all are from different schools, majors, etc. but we had a blast getting to work with each other. On Thursday, I stayed over a fellow intern's dorm and we went out to eat at Velseka. It was a great spot to enjoy a dinner outside in the beautiful weather!
The rest of the week was concentrated on finishing up the next week's logo. I knew I had to keep my time management under control because there were different designs I was still working on. By Friday I had finished the final Sweeps logo, background image for the iPhone application, and the banners for the Summer Sweeps Cross Promo.
On Friday afternoon, our group had scheduled a going away party for the intern's. My supervisor treated us to lunch while we watched both mine and the other intern's video for the "Reel Intern Contest." The lunch was a nice way to say goodbye to everyone and thank them for working with me over the semester. My summer vacation started officially as I left the building! I spent the rest of my afternoon with a few friends that met up with me in Chelsea before I headed back to the shore for the week.
This internship has been an amazing learning experience for me. For anyone who is looking to intern and hesitant to apply, my advice is to go for it! I wasn't sure what to expect because this was my first internship, but the opportunities I received really helped me to better understand my major. I got first hand experiences working with creative directors, and my designs were featured on the web (which not to mention are great portfolio pieces and references). I hope to stay connected with the people I met at NBCU and maybe even intern again next summer.
Thanks so much for following my summer!
I hope everyone enjoys these last few weeks of summer, and see you on campus!
Best Wishes,
Laura
P.S. - My weekly logos are still going to be up on www.TravelSkoot.com/SummerSweeps site, so be sure to keep creating new skoots and automatically be entered to win $50 in Sweepstakes!
