It’s hard to believe that I started working as an NBC intern over a month ago. Time does fly fast when you’re having fun!
At one of our weekly meetings, we met with all the PR and marketing interns and their advisors. It was a great chance to get to meet more leaders on the team who we will be working with helping to promote each of the websites. We discussed the multiple upcoming events that will be taking place soon and were able to brainstorm ideas for them.
The next event my team is working on is a sweepstakes that will award a prize at random to a user who creates a “skoot.” Every Monday, there will be a suggested theme for a “skoot” and anyone who submits one will automatically be entered into the contest for that week. I am currently finishing the design for the logo that will appear on the site and other advertisements. In addition to the logo, I will also be creating icons and images for the different themes each week. By working on logos and icons such as these, I not only get the chance to have my work published on a credible site, but also I am furthering my design skills and practice with the programs. My leader is always making sure that I have enough projects to be working on and offers advice and help. The program definitely keeps my best interests at first priority to ensure I have great experiences.
Last week, we also were introduced to new interns who will be working in our same area. It’s great to be able to connect with more interns because I love meeting new people, especially those who you’ll be working with daily. On Friday, about six of us all went out for lunch at a great Thai restaurant, “Sea,” near our office in Chelsea Market. A co-worker at NBC suggested the nice, affordable place for lunch and we all were able to chat with each other and get to know the new interns better. The work aspect of interning is going wonderful, but I also love being able to experience the city as much as possible, especially when all the interns are together.
As I mentioned earlier, the NBC Universal group offers many great opportunities for the interns. Last week, I applied to one of the contests, which will promote working with NBC Universal. “The Reel Intern Contest” assigns interns to specific groups who must work together to create a short clip advertising why one should intern with NBC. This is a great way to get the attention of perspective students and help them understand why they should intern here. I personally want to let students know that working with NBC Universal is a opportunity that you can’t pass up. I was notified at the end of last week that I was a finalist in the contest and will have my first group meeting this morning at 30 Rock. I can’t wait to meet the members in my group and hopefully get the chance to pitch our idea to NBC officials and leaders if we win!
Thanks for reading and enjoy your week!
