FEDERAL WORK STUDY

"I wanted to do community service work study because even though PhilaU. does have a Community Service Office to get students to interact with the surrounding community, it is easier to get involved in community work if it is a scheduled job "

At Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center...

My responsibilities range from being a receptionist up front to being a secretary to the the different offices within the center ie. operations manager, accounting, and education. The workload can include filing paperwork, making phonecalls, organizing parent meetings, organizing donations, working with children, making flyers and banners.

I wanted to do community service because...
I wanted to do community service work study because even though PhilaU. does have a Community Service Office to get students to interact with the surrounding community, it is easier to get involved in community work if it is a scheduled job. Even though the volunteering I am doing is paid, the type of work-study I am working for instills a sense of volunteerism within the community because Arthur Ashe is all about working with the next generation.
What is most satisfying about working for through Community Service is...

meeting and getting to see kids who were once new and shy to the center begin to recognize you everyday; they come in and are excited to be there. I love working at AAYTE because since attending college in a new area I found it difficult to know where to go to find places to volunteer and in high school it was a big part of my life. AAYTE's vision is to not only teach kids about tennis but also life skills that would help improve their lives in the present and future. People hear a lot about the public eduation system being the best in Philly, so AAYTE specifically targets and brings inner-city children into the program.
