DESIGN + MEDIA
Digital Animation
|
Philadelphia University's
Digital Animation program builds on
an established and highly respected
design curriculum to address both
continuing and emerging industry
needs. It prepares students to
produce animation for broadcast,
feature films, simulations, and
interactive venues such as the web,
video games, and museum exhibits.
Students in the Digital Animation
program begin with a year of common
design foundation with their Digital
Design and Graphic Design
colleagues. In the second year, they
are introduced to the concepts,
principles, and techniques of
animation through a combination of
lecture, screenings, and exploratory
exercises, culminating in a short
animated film. Students then combine
their knowledge of design with
deeper studies of motion and timing,
2D and 3D techniques, storytelling,
the history of the medium, and
contemporary practices and
practitioners.
Digital Animation students utilize
standard professional animation
tools to create their portfolio,
culminating in a senior capstone
project. Generous studio time with
standard professional tools and
frequent critiques with both
classmates and teachers enable the
students to create animation of
exceptional quality. In addition,
students are given the opportunity
to exhibit their work to the general
public at semi-annual animation
showcases. Whenever possible,
students are encouraged and equipped
to engage the broader community of
professional animation.
