Sherman Finch is the Director of both the Master and Bachelor in Science in Interactive Design & Media and an Assistant Professor in the Undergraduate Digital Design department at Philadelphia University. Originally a painter, he began working in New Media in 1995 in order to expand his artistic palette. He received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and earned two Masters's degrees from the Maryland Institute, College of Art: a MFA in Painting and an MA in Digital Arts. One of Sherman's interests in teaching and in his own art practice is finding ways to integrate his background in traditional materials and methods with new media and digital technology.
Sherman's work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and is in numerous public and private collections. His work has been featured in Graphic Design Annual, Baltimore Magazine, and Architectural Digest. Sherman is a co-founding member of the artist collaborative group, The AKA Collective, a group of artists who work with new media, sound, video, photography, and installation. AKA's mission is to use technology as a means to explore issues of culture, identity, memory, and personal experience.
Sherman has over ten years experience working in the design field. Some of his past clients include John Hopkins University, the Discovery Channel, Peabody Conservatory of Music, and Virtual Tech Solutions. He also managed the Digital Art Program at MICA for a year and has taught at several other institutions including Mansfield University, John Hopkins University, Northampton Community College, and University of Maryland.
Considering himself a Texasdelphian, Sherman spent most of his youth in Texas and currently resides in Philadelphia with his wife, his daughter and baby son. Besides being an educator and artist, Sherman has a strong passion for experimental music and playing the guitar.
