(Projects underwritten by grants or other outside funding)
Sponsored projects must be proposed and carried out within a University school and are directed by a faculty member or authorized professional staff. Projects need to relate to the programs of the school and should also relate to enhancing the University’s mission.
The budget needs to be adequate for the work proposed, including, but not limited to personnel, equipment, supplies, travel and indirect costs. (Proposal preparation guidelines, linked on the library pages, provide budget preparation guidelines also.)
In accepting sponsored projects, the University, the schools, and members of the faculty or staff accept obligations to furnish:
Although the Principal Investigator (P.I.) is responsible for the performance on the project and is obliged to comply with all terms of the agreement, the University, not the P.I., is the grantee or the contractor. Only designated faculty or staff members can commit the University contractually or are authorized to sign for the University.
Proposals must follow the routing outlined in the Procedures for Developing Grants and Funding Requests (this will link to a PDF form) so that proper processing can be assured.
When publishing research in appropriate journals, the support of sponsors should be acknowledged (unless they wish to remain anonymous).
The department of Foundations and Grants coordinates the functions of other offices whose duties pertain to the technical and administrative management of grant or contract agreements. Anyone originating or receiving correspondence pertaining to such agreements should provide a copy to the Foundations and Grants office.
