RESPONSIBILITIES AND RIGHTS
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND RIGHTS
Students have the responsibility to:
Identify themselves as having a disability for which
accommodations or assistance are required by meeting with
the coordinator of Disability Services.
Provide documentation that meets the University's
documentation requirements as outlined in this Handbook.
a. Note: The University is not required to provide
accommodations until the student has provided sufficient
documentation of the need for the accommodation.
b. Note: The University reserves the right to request
additional documentation or testing to establish the need
for a specific accommodation.
Inform faculty of desired academic adjustments.
a. Note: It is necessary to present an academic adjustment
letter from the coordinator of Disability Services to the
faculty member, and to discuss what is needed with the
faculty member.
b. Note: It is not necessary to inform faculty of the exact
nature of the disability.
Initiate timely requests for academic adjustments and
auxiliary services.
Meet the academic standards and requirements of the
University.
Follow through with the procedures for accommodations and/or
services mutually agreed upon with the coordinator of
Disability Services in order to continue receiving
services. Students must meet with the coordinator at the
beginning of each semester to request and discuss potential
accommodations.
Initiate action regarding any grievance issues.
Students have the right to:
1. Receive equal access to courses, programs, services,
jobs, activities, and facilities offered by Philadelphia
University.
2. Receive reasonable and appropriate accommodations,
academic adjustments, and/or auxiliary aids, as determined
on a case-by-case basis.
3. Refuse accommodations and/or services at any time without
jeopardizing their rights to any future accommodations
and/or services.
4. Expect that information regarding their disability and
need for accommodations will be treated confidentially to the
extent practicable by the University offices involved.
