William W. Uchimoto
William W. Uchimoto concentrates his practice in areas of the China Practice group and
in securities exchange, broker-dealer and investment advisory regulation and compliance.
He is chair of the firm’s China Practice group.
Bill is a leading securities regulatory and compliance attorney. He represents brokerdealers,
investment advisors, securities exchanges, hedge funds, public and private
companies and other financial market participants regarding various transactional
and regulatory matters. His practice combines regulatory, transactional and litigation
components to provide integrated corporate finance and securities regulatory services
to clients.
As chair of Buchanan’s China Practice Group, Bill represents Chinese companies in becoming
U.S. public companies and establishes their listing on U.S. securities exchanges
such as Nasdaq. As early as 1998 when Chinese domestic capital markets were not
open to international investors, in his position as general counsel of a Nasdaq-listed
company, he played a key role in negotiating with Asian financial institutions toward
securing multiple financings and the launch of a global securities trading system for
Asian broker-dealers and investment managers in Hong Kong. Bill regularly travels to
China, and through his contacts and his experience, has established extensive business
and government contacts there.
