The Financial Aid Office is committed to educating students and their families in the best ways to fund their college education. Over 85 percent of our students receive aid in the form of grants, loans, campus employment and/or scholarships.

How to Apply for Financial Aid
1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can file your  FAFSA online (please follow instructions listed on their website) or if you prefer a paper FAFSA, we can mail on to you at your request. Your application should be submitted as soon as possible after January 1.

Make sure you list Philadelphia University's code on your application (#003354). You must complete a new FAFSA each year.

Philadelphia University's deadline for applying for financial aid is April 15.

2. Soon after the FAFSA has been processed, both the student and Philadelphia University will receive the Student Aid Report (SAR) indicated if the application successfully was processed. If it has not, student's must correct their application as indicated on their SAR.

3. If the student has been accepted to the University, the Office of Financial Aid will determine their eligibility and award the student accordingly.  

Students will be considered for the following:

Philadelphia University Grant
Federal Pell Grant
PHEAA (for Pennsylvania residents only)
Federal Perkins Loan
Federal Work Study
Stafford Loan
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

The student will receive a Financial Aid award letter approximately four weeks after you have filed the FAFSA.

International Students
International students applying for, or currently holding, student visas or any type of non-immigrant visa, are not eligible for Federal funds, including FEDERAL PELL, PHEAA, FEDERAL SEOG, PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY GRANT, FEDERAL PERKINS LOAN, FEDERAL WORK STUDY and the FEDERAL PLUS or FEDERAL STAFFORD LOAN.
International students should contact the international student advisor for scholarship information.

Self-Supporting Students (Independent)
Legislation defines an independent student as an individual who is at least 24 years old by December 31 of the academic year for which aid is sought. If the student will not be at least 24 years old, then he/she must meet at least one of the following criteria to be considered independent:
* Be  a student is (or were until the age of 18) an orphan or ward of the court and both of your parents are deceased
* Be a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces
* Be a married student

* Be a student who has children who receive more than half of their support from you
* Be a student who has dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you  

* Be currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purposes other than training
* Be a student for whom the financial aid officer makes a documented determination of independence by reason of other unusual circumstances

Dependent Status
Students who do not comply with the requirements for self-supporting status must apply as dependent students.

Study Abroad
Students who are considering study abroad through another college or university will need to contact the Financial Aid Office to request information about the additional financial aid procedures necessary to transfer their aid abroad.
