Desirable, feasible, valuable ideas and the thinkers behind them are what DEC is all about.
Why DEC?
By bringing design, engineering and business disciplines together, Kanbar College pushes students to think beyond the boundaries of existing academic fields and focus on innovation through teamwork, collaboration and connections with industry partners, with an emphasis on critical thinking and real-world problem solving skills. In the classroom, students team up to work on projects in the same way that designers, engineers and business professionals work together in the real world to create new products, services, experiences, brands, business models or solutions to complex challenges such as health care, human transportation and climate change.
One distinctive aspect of the program is that students interact with industry professionals starting their very first semester. The first year Integrative Design Processes (IDP) course includes an innovative lecture series called the DEC Dialogues where students have the opportunity to learn from and engage with prominent industry professionals concerning topics relevant in today's workplace environment. Additionally, another program, called the DEC Fellows program, invites experts in the fields of design, engineering and business to partner with the University and conduct focused workshops relating to core DEC concepts. The DEC Fellows emphasize skills that are integral to the DEC curriculum and work directly with faculty and students to cultivate a creative and innovative culture in the classroom.
