We hope that you are enjoying your summer and are eagerly anticipating your arrival to Philadelphia University. The academic year officially begins with the Convocation Ceremony on Thursday, August 20 at 4pm in the Gallagher Center, with seating available as early as 3:30pm. Convocation is a ceremony rich in tradition celebrating the introduction of new students to the University. Following Convocation there will be a campus picnic; family members are invited to attend both events. In the event of inclement weather, dinner will be served at 5:30pm in the Ravenhill Dining Hall to students only.
After the picnic, parents and other family members will depart campus and New Student Orientation (NSO) will continue with a floor meeting for resident students or a commuter social at 7pm, both followed by a kickoff event in the Gallagher Center at 8:30pm. Orientation is a required four-day program (Thursday, August 20 through Sunday, August 23) that introduces you to campus life, community standards and the academic culture of the University. Classes begin at 8am on Monday, August 24, 2009.
Resident students will receive a detailed schedule of NSO during the resident move-in process and commuter students will receive a detailed schedule at the commuter student check-in at the Office of Student Activities in the Kanbar Campus Center Living Room from 3 to 3:45 p.m.
Special note for students who will be living on campus this fall:
If you will be a residential student and have already attended a summer START program, you may move into your residence hall room between the hours of 7am and 3pm on Thursday, August 20. Please consult with your housing assignment letter for a specific time assigned for your move-in. Meals will be available in the Ravenhill Dining Hall. Students who are attending the August 19 START program should carefully review the attached note with amended move-in instructions. If you have any questions regarding on-campus housing or move-in, please refer to the housing assignment letter mailed to you from the Office of Residence Life or call the office at (215) 951-2741.
Special note for commuter students: Meal tickets will be provided at no cost during all NSO events.
The University community has been hard at work planning a series of engaging events that will provide you with essential information about academic and campus life at Philadelphia University. We look forward to seeing you at Convocation and New Student Orientation
