Michael Leonard Named Dean of the School of Design and Engineering After a national search, Michael Leonard has been appointed academic dean for the School of Design and Engineering, effective July 1, 2012. A member of the faculty since 1998, Leonard’s efforts helped build the industrial de- sign program into the world-class program it is today. In addition to teaching at PhilaU, Leonard also has taught at Drexel University, the Art Institute of Philadelphia and the University of the Arts. Leonard is a design practitioner with a distinguished career. He established his own practice, The Design Works, in 1982, was owner and principal designer of Designship, was partner in Duzeo Product Design and manager of Advanced Product Design. He is currently principal designer of Mike Leonard, Designer. Currently completing his Ph.D. in Education, Leonard’s leadership will continue to advance the design and engineering programs at Philadelphia University. 13
