Hope for Honduras: Health Science Students Deliver Much-Needed Aid Students in health science, pre-med and physician assistance programs planned and carried out a medical mission to Honduras in summer 2011. Facing a country-wide crisis, Honduras estimated in the latter half of the last decade that the country had available only 30 percent of the drugs needed to treat its population. Accompanied by two professors, 18 PhilaU students traveled to the remote village of Manzaragua, Honduras with the group Global Medical Brigades, armed with more than $50,000 worth of medicine packed in 21 suitcases. The students raised funds to purchase the supplies and were able to treat more than 630 people at a mobile medical clinic they set up in the community while in Honduras. 21
