PhilaU Honors Leaders of Innovation at Annual Spirit of Innovation Gala Philadelphia University celebrated five innovative leaders and acclaimed menswear designer John Varvatos at the annual Evening of Innovation on April 28. Following the University’s Annual Fashion Show at the Academy of Music sponsors, supporters and honorees joined the University at the Spirit of Innovation Gala at the Hyatt at the Bel- levue in Center City Philadelphia. At the Gala, President Spinelli presented five Leader of Innovation Medals for outstanding contributions in the honorees’ respective fields. The recipients (beginning second from left) were: Dr. D. Walter Cohen, D.D.S., chancellor emeritus of Drexel University College of Medicine; William “Bill” L. Jasper, chief executive officer of Unifi, Inc.; George Y.V. King ’69, H’11, managing director of Wearbest Garment Manufactur- ing Co., Ltd.; Francis “Fran” J. Shammo ’83, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Verizon Communications; and Eileen J. Martinson ’86, chief executive officer of Sparta Systems.
