Exploring the World As part of the PhilaU Nexus Learning approach, groups of PhilaU students ventured abroad for short courses in Latin America and Europe. Aimed at fostering active, collaborative learning that is connected to the real world and infused with the liberal arts, PhilaU short courses challenge students to explore the history, culture and politics of the countries and regions visited. This this year’s highlighted trips include an interdisciplinary trip to Cuba focused on issues of conservation and sustainability, and a freshman trip to Germany, Austria and Turkey that addressed the complex socio-political relationships in the region, with particular attention to the Holocaust, Cold War, and Europe’s relations with Turkey and the Islamic World. Other PhilaU short course destinations included Hong Kong, Paris and Buenos Aires.
