The Design Center at PhilaU: An International Resource The Design Center Loans Roaring ’20s Accessories to National Constitution Center Exhibit This colorful prohibition period in U.S. history was the focus of a world-premiere exhibit at the National Constitution Center, “American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition,” which featured fashion accessories loaned by The Design Center at Philadelphia University. Design Center items include two authentic women’s accessories from the 1920s: a cloche hat made in France for the Lord and Taylor Salon, and a fan made of dyed ostrich feathers with a tortoise shell handle. The Design Center Displays 1920s Fashions at Downton Abbey Premiere Party Fabulous dresses that could have been worn by aristocratic British ladies in the 1920s—part of The Design Center’s historic collection—were displayed at the season three premiere party of Downton Abbey at WHYY in Philadelphia. The hit PBS show, which reached more than 17 million viewers last season, depicts the lives of the fictional aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the early 1900s. Tumblr Names The Design Center at PhilaU as Top Design Blog The Design Center at Philadelphia University was selected as a top design blog on Tumblr. The Design Center, which houses PhilaU’s historic and rare fashion and textile collection, regularly posts photos of prints and other patterns that play an influential role in the world of fashion.
