Admission and Retention Requirements
- Admission
- Students admitted into the Honors Program should take an honors course in both semesters of the first year.
- Students who make the Dean’s List in the first semester are invited to join honors and may enroll in an honors course in the Spring semester of the first year.
- Students may be nominated for the program by faculty in the first year.
- Students may petition the Director for admission to Honors.
- Courses
- Any student who has a 3.2 overall GPA may enroll in an honors course.
- Honors courses must be taken for a grade.
- In order to earn Honors credit for the course, students must earn at least a C+.
- Honors students should take one honors course per semester until they have completed 7 courses/ 22 honor credits.
- Honors students must take the honors section of the College Studies capstone course, Contemporary Perspectives.
- Honors students may participate once in the Honors Summer Readings for honors credit.
- All honors courses appear on the transcript.
- Activities for Honors Credit
- Community Service (30-45 hours within one year)
- Independent Study / Research
- Study Abroad
- Toastmasters, Inc. (CC – 10 speeches)
- Graduate Course
- Other approved experiences
- Good Standing
- Students must maintain a 3.0 in honors courses.
- Honors students should have a 3.0 overall to progress to the second year in Honors.
- Honors students should have a 3.25 to progress to the third year in Honors.
- Honors students should have a 3.35 to progress to the fourth year in Honors.
- Honors students must have a 3.4 to complete the program.
- Graduation
- The Honors Certificate
- The Honors Medallion
- The Honors Stole
- Recognition at the University Baccalaureate Ceremony
- Recognition at Commencement as Distinguished Honors Scholar
Students who complete 7 honors courses / 22 honors credits will receive:
- Activities
- Honors Student Association – plans activities around town and on campus.
- Honors students may bring guests to most events and activities.
