Faculty Position

Title of Position:
Assistant Professor of Interior Design/ Interior Architecture (Design & History/Theory)

Full-time, 9-month

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess subject-matter expertise in Design and History/Theory of Interior Design and working knowledge of software applications used in interior design and architecture practice.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of professional practice and 3 years of college-level teaching experience in interior design / architecture or related field.

Education Required:

Candidates should possess one of the following categories of acceptable academic credentials: 1) terminal combination of a professional bachelor’s and a master’s degree; 2) a terminal professional master’s degree; or 3) a doctorate. Foreign equivalents to U.S. degrees are acceptable. At least one of the candidate’s degrees must be in interior design or interior architecture. Additional degrees in a related design discipline, such as Architecture, Industrial Design, and Furniture Design, are welcomed.


Candidates must either be eligible for NCIDQ certification or in candidacy in a doctoral program at the time of hire. Long-term contract/ Tenure, as appropriate, and promotion are contingent upon attainment of NCIDQ certification or completion of the doctoral degree, respectively; attainment is necessary by the time the dossier is submitted.


For this advertised position, the contract type may be practice track or tenure track and will be awarded based on the credentials and experience of the finalist.


Uniquely-qualified candidates without the minimum academic credentials, who exemplify exceptional professional experience, critical practice or scholarship, present widely-recognized professional work, and pedagogical style compatible with Nexus Learning will be considered for a position on the practice track.

Responsibilities:

The appointed candidate will teach in the undergraduate and graduate Interiors programs. The primary responsibility will be to teach a sequence of two Design Studios as well as lecture courses in History/Theory of Interior Design. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the programs through activities such as curricular/course development, course coordination, assessment of student learning outcomes, student advising, participation in studio reviews, and preparation for CIDA accreditations.
