Industrial Design student Michelle Mullin, who won
second place in this year’s Collab Student Design Competition for her
necklace/tabletop sculpture, was featured The Philadelphia Inquirer. The
design challenge was to create an “intelligent ornament” inspired by the work of
Danish silversmith Georg Jensen. Josh Owen, assistant professor of Industrial
Design, was quoted in the article.

Industrial Design majors Ben Salthouse (’06) and Juan Cespedes won
2nd prize in the 2005-2006 Airport. Security. Circulation competition sponsored
by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. The two designed a
passenger screening zone in the competition category of protective security
zone, under the leadership of sponsor Hyman Zelkowitz, adjunct faculty in the
School of Design and Media. The award includes a cash prize of $6,000 for the
students and $2,000 for Zelkowitz. The competition jury included architects and
representatives from schools of architecture and the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security. Winning projects will be displayed at the association’s 2007 annual
meeting and the American Institute of Architects 2007 Convention. In addition,
the projects will be published in a Competition Summary Book.

Industrial Design Program Senior Sarah Pantaleo crowned the Grand Prize winner
of the Staples Invention Quest for her invention, Spindle Rack. The winning
project was the result of a collaboration between Pantaleo and adjunct professor
Mike Leonard as part of her summer internship at Leonard's design firm,
Duzeo.
