Toys R' Us Business Plan Competition

ToysCan you create a business plan in four days to increase the world’s largest toy retailer’s market share for the entire year?

Nearly 50 Philadelphia University business students had the chance to try when they competed in a fast-paced business plan competition sponsored by Toys“R”Us. Working in teams of 10, the students were challenged to devise strategies to increase the toy retailer’s U.S. market share in the juvenile and toys industry throughout the year.

Five senior business majors won the $4,000 top prize for their online, birthday party planning service as part of a four-day business plan competition sponsored by international retailer Toys“R”Us, Inc. The winning team, judged by Toys“R”Us executives, included Tiffany Taylor ’11, Stephanie Santana ’11, Gloria Curry ’11, Samayra Rivera ’11 and Abigail Epstein ’11, whose plan aimed to enhance the retailer’s existing “Geoffrey’s Birthday Club.”

Among the students’ ideas were an initiative to encourage people to send gifts to children for no particular reason; trade-in opportunities throughout the year for bicycles, books, costumes and toys; and a marketing strategy built around promoting books and other learning opportunities.
