This page contains information about the information literacy goals for L111 students. L111 sections are drawn together by a common first-year theme and assignment. Click here to link to the Writing Program's page on L111.

In this course, we will focus on:

bulletEffectively using appropriate information technologies for communication and research. Students will use the world wide web, word processing software, and online database systems available via Gutman Library, as deemed appropriate by their instructors.
bulletCorrect to citation and documentation of information using MLA format.  Students will understand why documentation is important, what plagiarism is, and what the consequences of plagiarism are at this university.
bullet At the discretion of the instructor, guided research using the internet as an information resource.
bullet Throughout this course, students will engage in critical thinking and evaluation of information. Students will move from text-based writing and discussion to a writing assignment requiring the use of outside resources and research.
