About the Program
Philadelphia University's fully accredited Bachelor in Landscape Architecture (BLA) program promotes sustainable urban planning and design. The 4-year Landscape Architecture Program is committed to providing leadership in confronting issues that affect urban neighborhoods and ecological systems.
Philadelphia University’s Landscape Architecture provides a comprehensive professional education that develops the knowledge, skills, vision and leadership necessary for students to understand contemporary global issues and the varied needs of society.
What makes our Landscape Architecture Program unique is that many of our design studio projects are service-learning based for "real" clients. Students respond to actual community and environmental concerns by developing sustainable design solutions. Because of this service-learning emphasis, our Landscape Architecture Program was awarded a Schuylkill Action Network (SAN) Educational Sector Source Water Protection Award (2006).
Our upper level landscape architecture design studios are taught by some of the top landscape architects in the world!—One of the advantages of studying landscape architecture in Philadelphia. These professionals not only bring invaluable diversity and expertise to our Landscape Architecture Program, they are also highly committed to our students. Their involvement often leads to internships and/or full time jobs for our upper level landscape architecture students.
Our Landscape Architecture graduates have been extremely successful in landing internships and/or fulltime employment at some of the best firms in the country, e.g., OLIN Partnership, Andropogon, Ayers St. Gross, Oehme Van Sweden, Jonathan Alderson—just to name a few.
Features of our BLA program include:
- Easy access to Philadelphia’s 1700-acre Fairmount Park, where natural systems and restoration techniques can be easily studied
- Small design studios that allow for focused attention from professors
- Internships with top landscape architecture firms in the country
- Study abroad opportunities on every continent
- Lecture series by prominent professionals
- Field trips to New York City, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, as well as regional parks, natural areas and arboreta
