ABI/Inform Global - The premier business research database for retrieving articles from business magazines and journals. It covers over 1,000 global publications going back as far as 1971. Use it to find articles about topics in management, marketing, finance, and virtually any other business subject. It includes many scholarly (peer-review) publications. Also excellent for information about companies, industries, and business trends. About 75% of the articles are available in full-text format. Part of the ProQuest database system.

ABI/Inform Trade & Industry - Concentrates on the coverage of articles from over 700 trade and industry journals. Use it to find articles about companies, products, and industry trends. Most of the articles are available in full-text format. Part of the ProQuest database system.

ABI/Inform Business Dateline - Provides access to the full text of metropolitan and regional business newspapers. This would include publications such as Philadelphia Business Journal, Crain's Chicago Business, and over 150 other newspapers. An excellent resource for research smaller or private companies or industries often overlooked by the global business press. Part of the ProQuest database system. Also try EBSCO's Regional Business News database.

Wall Street Journal - Provides access to the full-text of articles (no numeric data or tables) from WSJ back to 1986. In addition to being an excellent source of information on many contemporary business issues, WSJ can be used to research companies, industries and people. Part of the ProQuest database system.When you search ABI you will retrieve WSJ article. It is easy to limit a search to title so that in ProQuest you can retrieve only articles from the WSJ.

NOTE: ProQuest business databases can be searched individually, in combinations, or all together.

Business Source Premier -  As the world’s largest full text business database, Business Source Premier provides full text for nearly 8,350 scholarly business journals and other sources, including full text for more than 1,100 scholarly business publications. Coverage includes virtually all subject areas related to business. It provides a variety of company and industry reports. This database provides full text (PDF) for more than 350 of the top scholarly journals dating as far back as 1922. This database is updated on a daily basis via EBSCOhost.

Plunkett Research Online - Designed for market researchers and job seekers. It provide industry analysis and data for nearly 30 major industries, including apparel and textiles, retailing, technology, and advertising and branding. It can be used to locate information about companies within the industries, in addition to the market reports.

Hoover's Online - An easy to use database of company financial information, as well as profiles of industries. The database provides access to more detailed "subscriber" only areas of Hoovers. Use the "advanced" search to locate companies by criteria such as industry code, sales size and more.

Stat-USA - Produced by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, this database is designed to assist companies trying to export products overseas. It draws upon many government agencies to provide both domestic and foreign economics information. Statistics on economic indicators, imports / exports, and market research can be accessed. State of the Nation provides U.S. data; Globus & NTDB (National Trade Data Bank) provides foreign information. The NTDB Market Research reports provide information and data on overseas industries.

CCH Tax Research - a comprehensive database for accounting and taxation information. This serves as an electronic equivalent to CCH's Standard Federal Tax Reporter. In addition it provides access to tax publications, IRS information and more. Many areas of the database can be searched by keyword. At Philadelphia University, CCH Tax Research is used most heavily by students in the Masters in Taxation program.

RIA Checkpoint - Checkpoint is taxation research database similar to CCH, and offers access to key tax publications. In addition it provides authoritative analysis from RIA editors, world-renowned WG&L authors and the best external content from partners such as BNA, PPC, AICPA, PLI and WorldTrade Executive. Like CCH Tax Research, RIA Checkpoint is used most heavily by students in the Masters in Taxation program.

LexisNexis Academic - Provides access to thousands of full-text newspaper, magazines, journals and documents from a wide range of global sources. The business section contains covers articles from business journals and newspapers, company financial information (including annual reports and 10-Ks), industry and market news, and accounting resources. It's strength is access to full-text information. For scholarly articles, it is far less useful than ABI/Inform Global.

Emerald - This is a full-text journal collection. It provides access to the full-text of several dozen business related magazines and journals. While the journals can be examined individually by title and month and year of publication, the system can also be searched by keyword. 

Business & Company Resource Center is an easy-to-search compendium of information about companies and the industries in which they operate. It brings together information from business magazines and journals, reference works such as the International Directory of Company Histories, analyst reviews of companies (Investext), market research reports, financials and other types of information about companies and industries. An SIC search is built into the interface. B&CR is an excellent starting point for company research, and public company research in particular.

Credo is a compendium of over 100 reference sources (dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.) covering a wide range of subject areas. Business students and faculty will find it useful for the following full-text business reference books: Penguin Business Dictionary, Penguin Dictionary of Finance, Penguin Dictionary of Economics, Wall Street Words, Dictionary of Human Resources & Personnel Management, and several others. The database can be searched by keyword so information can be retrieved on topics from multiple sources.

EconLit is the premier database for economics literature research. It abstracts and indexes articles from over 200 economics journals, and contains other types of publications, such as conference proceedings. This is not a full-text database. EconLit is found on the FirstSearch database system. When you begin the search you will be in FirstSearch. Go to the drop box that says "select a database to search" and then choose EconLit. The FirstSearch interface will indicate when a journal is held by Gutman Library, or it can indicate what other libraries own a journal or book title.

Value Line Research Center is an electronic, Web-based version of the venerable investor's publication, Value Line Investment Survey. However, the electronic version is much enhanced. In addition to supplying the traditional Value Line company and industry reports, a powerful stock/company screening tool is available. This makes Value Line Research Center an excellent tool for identifying companies according to a nice range of financial variables.

MRI Reporter Database provides data from 2003 (and two prior years) on a group of consumer products that includes apparel, beverages, health & beauty aids, and others. The data is used to find out who uses products (provides user demographics) and what media they follow or use (tv, radio, magazines, etc.). You will need to create an account in order to use MRI Reporter, but this is easy to do. Just go to http://www.mriplus.com and click on "register for a free account".
