Interlibrary Loan and PALCI E-ZBorrow

Interlibrary Loan and PALCI E-ZBorrow are services available to members of the Philadelphia University community (students, faculty, and staff holding a current valid university ID).  We attempt to locate and provide books and journals articles not owned by the Gutman Library. Alumni borrowers are not eligible to use interlibrary loan services at Philadelphia University. Alumni borrowers should contact the service at their home institution or at their local public library. If there are any questions send email to us at ill@philau.edu or call the Interlibrary Loan Office at 215-951-2580.

PALCI E-ZBorrow

Choose PALCI E-ZBorrow first when you want to request a book!!!!

If the item you want is not found in E-ZBorrow please use FirstSearch Direct Request.

3-5 Business Days

E-ZBorrow allows the Philadelphia University community to search the catalogs of over 50 academic libraries (including the University of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, Rutgers University and Pennsylvania State University) and directly request and borrow books not available at Gutman Library. Once items arrive you will be notified by email. Items can then be picked up at the Gutman Library Circulation Desk.

Click here to place an EZ-Borrow Request

When prompted, enter your colleague ID number. Go to https://www.philau.edu/security/checkid/ if you need to find your colleague ID number.

FirstSearch (OCLC) Direct Request

5-10 Business Days

Interlibrary loan (ILL) requests can be placed directly through the FirstSearch databases. Once items are received notification will be sent via e-mail. All Interlibrary Loan items are picked up at the Gutman Library circulation desk.

To place an ILL in FirstSearch examine the "detailed" record. On the top menu bar choose the third button labeled "ILL". After clicking this button the following page is the ILL form you will need to complete and submit.

Traditional Interlibrary Loan

3-20 Business Days

Use Traditional Interlibrary Loan as a last resort. First consult PALCI E-ZBorrow and then FirstSearch before placing a traditional Interlibrary Loan Request. Traditional Interlibrary Loan Requests take longer to arrive. All Interlibrary Loan items are picked up at the Gutman Library circulation desk.

Journal Articles

Step 1.  Please verify that the Gutman Library does not own the periodical by checking both the Library's catalog, PhilaFIND (for current issues), and the black serial  binders (for older issues) located at the Reference Desk.

Step 2.  Verify that the article is not available from one of the full-text periodical databases to which we subscribe by searching JournalList (full-text journal finder).

Step 3.  Submit a request for a copy of an article.

Copyright compliance

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in it's judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
