New Acquisitions -  September, 2007

This page provides links to a sampling of new books added to the Gutman Library collection. If you visit the library in search of books on this list, we recommend you look on the "new book" shelf before proceeding to the stacks. You may also want to check PhilaFind to make sure the book you want has not yet been checked out. Each month's list provides four categories of publications:

Go to a Subject-organized list of selected new additions to our collection.

Go to the most current Recreational Reading Titles.

Go to E-Books now available.

Go to Rena Rowan Reading Room for recent acquisitions in education. This is a special collection focusing on the needs of faculty and administrators for materials related to higher education.

Go to Special Collections,  for recent rare book acquisitions.

Go to VISIONAIRE for digital images of the most recent issue.

Go to PhilaFind, the library's online web-based catalog, to search for more books on your topic.

Recent Additions to  SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
McCabe, James D  THE ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF THE CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION...
Philadelphia
: National Publishing Co., 1876,
682 pgs., 22.5 cm.
Call Number: 909.81 M113i 1876

A good example of the elaborate souvenir gift books produced after the Centennial Exhibition. Contains a general history of the fair with woodcut illustrations. This specific title was noteworthy enough, that a reprint was published in 1975.

Sandhurst, Phillip T and Others THE GREAT CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION : Critically Described and Illustrated.
Philadelphia :  Ziegler & Co., 1876,
544 pgs.,  23.5 cm.
Call Number: 607.3474811 S217g 1876

Another example of the souvenir gift books published after the Centennial Exhibition. The exhibition is of interest to our University community, since the need for a local textile school was apparent after exposure to the European textile products shown at the fair.

The Library also now receives VISIONAIRE, a limited edition conceptual art and fashion quarterly published in New York. However, due to its format it is not shelved with the other magazines.  It is available for inspection on request.  Since every issue is different, images of each new issue will be included in this list.
