Borrowing books and other materials: Your
photo ID campus card is your library card. Our Web
site has more information on circulation and reserve
material procedures and policies. Gutman Library can also borrow needed materials (books and articles) from other libraries through
interlibrary loan.
Information Literacy: An important learning outcome for every
Philadelphia University student is to become an information literate person who
is an informed and engaged citizen, an asset to the workplace, and a lifelong
learner. Through your coursework, you will receive several opportunities to
practice forming research questions, determining the best sources to use for
research, evaluating the information you find and ethically applying it to
information-based problems.
Computing: Gutman Library houses over 80 desktop computers, both PCs and
Macs. In addition we also lend laptop
computers for in-house use at our Circulation Desk. Our entire building is wireless, so if you
bring a wireless laptop with you, you can use it on any level of the library.
Printing: There are black and white printers on all floors of the library and one color printer on the lower level. Each student can print 500 free,
double-sided b/w sheets per semester. To print in color or more than 500 sheets in a semester, you must have money on your university debit card.
Scanning: Scanners are located throughout the building, attached to
several of the computers. Scanners are connected to both PCs and Macintosh
computers. Scanners allow you to save digital images to your home directory, for
use in your projects or for printing to the color printer or to the black and
white printers.
Copiers: On the Main Floor, near the Circulation Desk,
there are two black and white copiers and a color copier. On the Lower Level,
near the Media Services Desk, there is an additional black and white copier. Copiers take cash or you can use your university debit card.
Blackboard Learning System: Many of
your instructors will be using Blackboard. If so, you will be instructed to log in to Blackboard to access
course materials. If you'd like to get a jumpstart, you can get more
information here: Blackboard Student Guide:

listen to, or view them here. Reserve materials are located at the Reserve
Desk, which is part of the Circulation Desk.
