Admissions Criteria
- Must have a baccalaureate degree in any field with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
and have fulfilled the following prerequisites with a grade of C or better:
- Anatomy & Physiology with labs - 2 semesters
- General Biology - 1 course
- Microbiology - 1 course
- General Chemistry - 1 course
- Pathophysiology - 1 course
- Nutrition - 1 course
- Sociology - 1 course
- General or Abnormal Psychology - 1 course
- Life Span or Developmental Psychology - 1 course
- Statistics - 1 course
- Submit a professional resume.
- Have an interview and a written agreement with a clinical site with a midwifery (CNM/CM) preceptor.
- Own a computer and have internet access.
- Submit two letters of reference.
- Submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate courses/institutions. NACES
accredited U.S. equivalency course-by-course detailed, full report is required if education is
outside of the U.S.
- Submit a brief essay, per guidelines, using a word processor program.
- The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) of Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is recommended but not
required.
- Demonstrate English proficiency on the TOEFL or IELTS if the primary
language of undergraduate study was not English.
- Complete an interview (in person/telephone) with a program faculty member.
Once accepted, CM pathway students take three courses (9 credits) in the Fall semester prior
to the beginning the Midwifery Program proper in the Spring semester. These three courses cover
basic health skills (such as vital signs, sterile technique, injections, bladder catherization
and others), environments of health care (exploring and understanding health care settings and
systems) and concepts of health and illness across the lifespan (introducing the midwifery
management process building on basic science knowledge).
