Degree Options

Our midwifery program offers various options depending on your educational preparation.  Check the brief descriptions below to determine which option would work best for you: 

2-Year Full-Time M.S. in Midwifery Program*
This program is a full-time distance learning program leading to a Master of Science degree and eligibility to sit for the American Midwifery Certification Board exam. 

Part-Time 3-year M.S. in Midwifery Option*
This is the 2-year full time option spread out across 3 years.  The pre-clinical work is spread out over the first two years, however, the final year does require a full time commitment.

Certified Midwife Pathway to the M.S. in Midwifery
This option is for individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree and science and social science pre-requisites in a discipline other than nursing.  The masters prepared Certified Midwife is a pioneering credential and interested applicants are urged to speak with an admissions counselor to discuss their individual goals and circumstances.

M.S. in Midwifery Completion
The MS Completion program in midwifery allows the practicing certified nurse-midwife or certified midwife to validate and expand the professional competencies and skills needed for today’s health care environment. This degree is designed to be customized to include your specific area of interest: teaching, advanced clinical practice, administration, international health and or research.

Post-Master’s Certificate*
The Post-Master's Certificate in Midwifery is available for the individual who already has a master's degree in a health related discipline.  It includes almost all elements of the M.S. in Midwifery, however individuals in this option are exempt from 4 classes.

Refresher Process for Re-entry to Clinical Practice
The re-entry to practice process (also called a refresher process) is for Certified Nurse-Midwives or Certified Midwives (CNM/CMs) who have previously been or are currently AMCB certified, but have been out of clinical practice and are looking to refresh their knowledge and skills in anticipation of re-entry to clinical midwifery practice.  This is a non-degree, individualized course of study taken as a non-matriculated student.

*Advanced Placement Option
This is an option as part of the M.S. in Midwifery and the Post Master’s Certificate.  Qualifying individuals are nurse practitioners, foreign educated midwives and MEAC-educated, licensed, and certified professional midwives.

Surgical First Assisting in Cesarean Delivery
This six-week, interactive, online course gives women’s health professionals the foundation necessary to become competent surgical assistants. Offered twice annually, this course has been approved by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). Clinicians who successfully complete the course will receive six CEUs.
