M.S. IN MIDWIFERY COMPLETION

The MS program in midwifery allows the practicing certified nurse-midwife or certified midwife to validate and expand the professional competencies and skills needed for today’s health care environment.

Our midwifery education program was designed from the beginning as a distance-learning program that would value — and build upon — your previous midwifery education and practice. State-of-the-art communication technology, coupled with the professional expertise of an accomplished and caring faculty, will maximize your individual educational experience. Best of all, you’ll remain in your own community as you work toward earning your master’s degree by completing one or two courses a term for just 3-4 terms.

We Make It Convenient to Earn Your Graduate Degree

Philadelphia University, the first school in the United States to offer a Master of Science program in Midwifery, has an exciting way for you to earn the degree through an innovative distance-learning program that is midwifery-based. Since our first class in June 1998, we have continued to strive toward excellence in our master’s curriculum.

The 21st-century midwife must be prepared for evidence-based practice, requiring increasingly sophisticated skills in the analysis of knowledge and practice. Today’s midwife supports practice with research, respecting both the art and science of midwifery. Frequently, midwives act as administrators, teachers, and advanced clinical practitioners — and they need further education in selected professional competencies and leadership skills. Reforms in the health care environment require midwives to be prepared to act as change agents to negotiate improvements in the health care of women and their families.

This degree is designed to offer the option of completing the program without relocating or incurring excessive expenses, and of customizing a program of study to include your specific area of interest: teaching, advanced clinical practice, administration, international health and or research.
